Sidebar on Storing Fruits and Veg

Whether it is leftovers or fresh produce from the store, storage is key.

Here are some hacks we use regularly:

Fruits and Veg

  • Broccoli & Celery - wrap it in tinfoil and this will keep for a couple weeks
  • Lemons and Limes or really any citrus - keep them in a ziploc in the fridge and they'll keep for a couple weeks
  • Lettuce or Spinach - keep them in a bag or container with a paper towel - you may need to replace the paper towel occasionally
  • Mushrooms - keep them in their original packaging
  • Onions and Garlic - keep them in a dark place and they'll keep for a couple weeks - watch for them sprouting, which can be accelerated if you keep them in the fridge or in a place with potatoes
  • Avocados and Tomatoes - ripen them on the counter and then stash in the fridge til you need them
  • Bananas - leave them on the counter
  • Apples - will keep a long time in the fridge
  • Carrots - will keep in a ziploc for a while in the fridge
  • Peppers - keep them in a ziploc in the fridge
